    Happy World Vegan Day!

    Happy World Vegan Day!

Veganism is all about being thoughtful, positive and kind towards animals, and this is the message we have been constantly trying to set out and spread since day one. Honestly it’s an amazing feeling to be a vegan brand, we love animals and we consider them more like our family.

The festive month starts with the World Vegan Day on the 1st of November  and is celebrated to recognize how far the vegan movement has reached and to  highlight how accessible and beneficial this lifestyle has been. We at MB Cork are trying our best to encourage the vegan-curious community to adopt veganism by sharing advice, products, ideas and other. Here are a few baby steps to join the bandwagon:

    •  Identify vegan events (including virtual ones) in your locality and participate.
    • ·Support a local vegan brand/ businesses by promoting them via social media or personal recommendations
    • Hold a potluck with friends and family who are non-vegan
    • ·  Sample a new vegan recipe.
    •   Help out an animal rescue team.

Your small steps can make a huge difference. So, what are your plans for the day?

Quick Sewing Guide with Cork Fabric

Quick Sewing Guide with Cork Fabric

High-quality cork is beautifully smooth and pliable.  It's soft to the touch and has a stroke able softness. The fabric is made in such a way that it will retain these properties even after sewing.  It does not dry, become brittle or flake with age.  The character and drape are similar to that of leather/ rubber. Here are a few easy steps to sew them:

  •     Stitch length = construction 3mm (generally)
  •     Topstitch 3.5-4mm (the thicker the layers, the longer the stitch length.
  •     Needle size = 80-90 (universal).  You can use leather needles.
  •     To secure your stitches, make a back-tack. In most prominent places try to secure your stitches by knotting the threads in the inside area.
  •     Cork doesn't fray. But, always remember to conceal the edges because the backing might fray.
  •     Cork does not crease, if you want folds, you will need to stitch them in. If you find a mild fold line you can safely iron it on a medium heat setting.
  •     Cork can happily be sewn on home machines (max 3-4 layers).
  •     Use rivets in case of bulkiness.
  •     Use sewing clips/double-sided tape/glue to hold pattern pieces together, avoid using pins.
  • Cork is perfect for bags as it is very durable and it is water and dirt repellent.

    Happy Haunting!

    Happy Haunting!

Halloween 2020 looks different, but that doesn’t mean we can’t have a ton of fun. There’s something magical about the change in the weather. Love the way the sunlight streams through the trees. Fall has always felt like the season where one gets to clean the slate and start over on a lot of new things.

Halloween is a day of activities like trick-or-treating, carving jack-o-lanterns, festive gatherings, donning costumes and eating treats. But, are you wondering how to go about it this year?? Here are a few list of things we were thinking about:

  • Purchase your favorite cork fabric and make your own DIY pumpkins
  • Drink some healthy fall tea
  • Make at least one new piece of Halloween jewelry
  • Give your coworkers a little trick or treat goodie bag
  • Send Halloween cards to your closest friends and family
  • Trick or treat yourself to something from our store ;)
  •
One of our favorite things about the Halloween and horror community is seeing everyone’s creativity. From designers and bloggers to artists and writers, the Internet has a bit of everything. We always love finding new creativity and you are no exception. So what’s at the top of your Halloween bucket list?

    Innovative Bio Materials

    Innovative Bio Materials

Innovative fabrics are the future of fashion. Most of you are aware of the cork fabric that we produce with an oak tree bark. Likewise we continuously strive to produce more sustainable alternatives, to introduce new friendly materials to our audience. Products that we produce apart from cork are: paper fabric and coconut shell bags

Washable kraft fabric (also known a leather paper or Kraft-Tex). Basically, it is a lightweight kraft paper with high tear resistance, made of biodegradable natural fiber. The collection is a good alternative for plastic, it is washable and also durable in use. Washable paper is produced from cellulose fiber. This is a substrate of wood, and is a natural material.

Coconut is the tree of one thousand uses and one such use is to make high quality, coconut buttons. Buttons are made from coconut shells by first cutting out "blanks" using a tubular saw. These blanks are split to the required thickness to produce good quality output.
It may be hard to believe that any of these items could be used to create luxurious and stylish pieces, yet they absolutely have the potential to do so.
The best part about all three of these innovative materials are- they are exciting, eco-friendly and stylish.
