How to Make a Cork Tote Bag

What if we told you that you can turn a beautiful sheet of natural cork fabric into a classic and aesthetic eco tote bag...

All you need is some inspiration, time and some sweet vegan leather textiles:
  • trace your panels and cut the pattern pieces;
  • check a preview with the panels;
  • iron the cut panels;

  • fold the corners of the handle and give a 1/8th inch top stitch;
  • fold the raw edge of the front patch pocket and make a 1/8th inch top stitch;
  • make a stay stitch to attach the front patch pocket and the front body panel of the tote;

  • mark the centre of top length and make two notch marks at 1 1/2 inch on either sides;
  • stitch the handles by placing them on the notches marked;
  • repeat the same process on the front and back panel of the tote;
  • add 1-2 tacks on the front patch pocket to make it more functional;

  • stitch along the 3 sides of tote bag with a 1/2 inch seam allowance;
  • to finish the top portion of the tote prepare two facing pieces;
  • stitch the sides of the facing pieces with 1/2 inch seam allowance;
  • prepare your lining pieces, include pockets if necessary;
  • attach your lining panels (face sides towards each other) and join it to the prepared facing pieces;

  • now we have the outer shell and lining separately prepared;
  • attach the shell and lining pieces together. Leaves 2-3 inches gap to turn it inside out;
  • make a 1/8 inch top stitch to remove bulkiness and give a smooth finish;

And voillá!

Your daily tote is ready
